DIY Travel Packing List-Dry Erase Board

Hi everyone! I wanted to post a quick update-I know I've been pretty quiet lately. I'm currently prepping for Peru in 18 days (18 days!!!). Against my better judgement, I'm taking the plunge and going on the trip. My doctors and I have finally found a painkiller regimen that I can tolerate, so I've decided to suck up the insane plane ride and go for it. As if I'd actually do anything else!

Since I'm still home on disability (and bored out of my mind), I decided to put some time to good use. Have you ever traveled and forgotten to pack something? We've all been there-and at one point, I'm sure you've thought about it, and then forgotten about it later. Since I'm crafty, I've come up with my own solution, and wanted to share the tutorial with you! I made a DIY dry erase board out of a simple picture frame.

This project can be used for so many different things-a memo board, calender, grocery list, menu for the week, or in my case-a please-don't-forget-to-pack-this-importiant-stuff list. Here's how to do it:

STEP 1: GET YOURSELF A PICTURE FRAME IN THE SIZE OF YOUR CHOICE

In this case, I opted to order a cheap 11x14 frame from amazon.com (check out the supply list below). I chose to remove the included mat, since I wanted the larger size.

STEP 2: PICK A PRETTY BACKGROUND

There's lots of different ways to do this-get creative! You can use cardstock or scrapbook paper, a light colored fabric (glue to the back of the frame backing), washi tape-whatever you'd like. Since I do some graphic design work on the side, I decided to use Microsoft Publisher and design a simple 11x14 sized poster, and sent it to Walgreens for printing (available the same day-and you can usually fins a coupon. Snapfish.com always has amazing deals as well-up to 60% off).

Whatever option you decide, trim it to size and insert it into the frame. Put the frame backing back on.

STEP 3: ADMIRE YOUR HANDY WORK

I promised you it would be easy, right? I'm planning on hanging mine up on the wall where I keep my suitcase, that way I can jot things down as I think of them. There are so many potential uses for these-and with the glass on the picture frame, they wipe clean easily.

SUPPLY LIST:

A picture frame-I chose to use this one from amazon.com  (link here:Picture Frame), but you can use any one you'd like as long as it has a glass front! I'm always on the lookout for some unique, vintage ones at garage sales, Kohls always has them on clearence, or even your local dollar store.

Dry Erase Marker-you can order them in bulk on amazon.com, but your cheapest option is usually locally at your local office supply or drug store.

Background Design-scrapbook paper, a pretty fabric, or washi tape. Get creative and design your own if you'd like!

I hope you liked this tutorial! I'll be posting my Peru itinerary pretty soon for you guys to check out, which will be followed up by lots of photos and a recap of the trip. I can't wait to share it with all of you!

xoxo,
