Dates For Your 2015 Diary: Terrific Trips For The New Year

So you've cleared up after the Christmas and New Years parties and now you're planning for 2015. Do you need some inspiration? Holiday Lettings plans ahead, from the Cricket World Cup Final in Melbourne to the Sound of Music Gala in Salzburg. You'll have that diary filled in no time.

FEBRUARY
What: Bob Marley 70th Birthday Bash
Where: Negril, Jamaica

Feel the love for the reggae king at the Bob Marley Birthday Bash: this is a five-day festival featuring drumming, dancing, and delicious Caribbean food.  You have to try the rice'n'peas with lashings of hot sauce, as well as catch one of the international reggae acts that drop by to pay their respect.

How about swaying down to Marley's birthplace in Nine Mile? Perch on Mt. Zion Rock (Marley's meditation spot) and lay your head on the 'pillow' painted in rasta colours, as celebrated in his song Talking Blues. You can then contemplate the legend's final resting place in the small Ethiopian-style church.

MARCH
What: The ICC Cricket World Cup Final
Where: Melbourne, Australia

Hear the wallop of willow in the birthplace of Test cricket as you watch the greats compete in an epic battle royale. Even if you don't have tickets for the big day, you can still visit the National Sports Museum in the cricket club's grounds. You can also tour the stadium itself, walking into the arena and admiring Melbourne's skyline from the terrace.

You can test your own fitness levels by attempting to scale the challenging 1000 Steps Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. Or how about surfing on one of the beautiful Great Ocean Road beaches or playing a few rounds on one of the local golf courses?

FROM MAY
What: Expo 2015
Where: Milan, Italy

Fancy sampling the sumptuous foods from around the world? Why not study how they are produced in an environmentally responsible way too? You can find out more about these delicious topics with a wonder around this vast exhibition. It covers a million square metres and caters for 20 million visitors, so you're sure to find something to your taste.

Continue the culinary theme with steaming plates of risotto alla milanese at a family-run trattoria, savouring the flavour and colour of the saffron. While you're there, you could also try other regional specialities like ossobuco (braised veal shank) or cotoletta alla milanese (schnitzel) - they're delicious!

AUGUST
What: Golden Jubilee National Day Parade
Where: Singapore

Singapore will mark it's fiftieth year of independence from Malaysia with vibrant parades, electric song-and-dance performances and impressive aerial displays at it's National Day Parade. Treat yourself to dinner at the Equinox Restaurant for stunning views over the explosive fireworks as they illuminate the city.

Carry on the commemorations the following day with a stroll along the new Jubilee Walk. It starts at the National Museum,  where you can study the country's post-independence story, and crosses the Jubilee Bridge from the Marina Promenade to Merlion Park. It's the perfect place for you to admire the half-fish half-lion Merlion statues, one of which stands an awe-inspiring eight metres tall.

OCTOBER
What: The Sound of Music 50th Anniversary Gala
Where: Salzburg, Austria

It is now 50 years since the cinema classic set in Salzburg was released, and the hills, indeed, are still alive with the sound of music. You can buy tickets from the Felsenreitschule Theatre for the grand celebratory gala, which promises selections from the musical and tributes from VIPs. You may recognise the auditorium too, as it's where the Von Trapp family performed Edelweiss in the film.

Make for the nearby Villa Trap and take in a special exhibition that compares the film's plot to the real-life story. You could then catch a cute puppet production of the musical at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre. And it would be wrong not to tour the movie's locations, from the family's lavish home at the Leopoldskron Palace to Maria's spartan Nonnberg Convent.
